Building Safe Communities

On Saturday, June 11th Beyondmedia facilitated a free Building Safe Community: Train the Trainers workshop hosted by the Awakening Gallery and Foundation.
Youth educators and facilitators participated in a hands-on training workshop where they they crafted small sculptures of places where they felt safe in their neighborhood. They were also equipped with materials and tools to bring back to their youth so that they can create their own sculptures to bring to the Summit.
Our goal is to have youth from diverse communities across Chicago co-create a multimedia art installation symbolizing their vision for a reclaimed safer Chicago. The installation will be showcased at Beyondmedia's annual Youth Summit on August 12, 2011 at Columbia College.
