Beyondmedia Education is partnering with Breakthrough Urban Ministry and independent filmmaker Joel Krogman to provide free video production classes for youth living on Chicago's west side.
Since September, the club of middle- and high-schoolers from East Garfield Park have created three documentaries expressing how their pasts have affected them, and more importantly, how their interests keep them positive and productive. This semester youth in film club are creating a documentary addressing violence, urban youth culture and social media. The film will premiere on May 25th at Westinghouse High School.

A Chain of Change workshop engaged youth at the Young Planners Network confernce. Youth planners are high school students engaged in urban planning, policy or action in their communities, either through a school project, internship, after-school program or community. Youth produced picture & text messages that were sent to their peers.

As part of the Chain of Change project, we held a youth summit, Wired Up: Youth Take on Violence at Roosevelt University in May, which drew over 100 youth. The event included a multimedia exhibit of all Beyondmedia programming, adult and youth panels and media advocacy stations where youth could create video letters and portrait postcards to Mayor Daley, Police Superintendent Jody Weis, CPS CEO Ron Huberman and local aldermen and principals, addressing the changes needed in their schools and neighborhoods to provide safer communities and learning environments.
